A 37-year-old security officer at a local hospital died during
the early hours of this morning (Sunday) after he was shot whilst asleep in his
bedroom.

Welile Yamaphi was sleeping in his house in Tromp Street,
Missionvale, when unknown suspects forced open the back door and security gate
to gain entry. According to police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, Yamaphi
was found lying on the floor of his room with multiple gunshot wounds. “Neighbours
heard the sound of gunfire at about 02:30 this morning. The motive and suspects
are unknown at this stage. The deceased was a security officer at a local
hospital,” Naidu said.

A case of murder is under investigation.

Police are urging the community to not stay silent should
they know the whereabouts of the suspects. “By keeping quiet you are aiding the
criminals to continue committing crimes,” Naidu added.
