A YOUNG girl from Motherwell is among only 24 learners across the country who have been selected for the inaugural KFC Ikusasa Lethu scholarship.
Akhona Mqongosi said she was shocked to hear that she have been given an opportunity to access quality and private education.
Launched in October 2020, the KFC Ikusasa Lethu scholarship programme is a partnership with the Curro Group of Schools. The programme is called “Ikusasa Lethu”, which is Zulu for “our future”, and is designed to assist KFC team members and their families with rewriting their narrative and creating a future which many can only imagine.
Akhona has been awarded the scholarship in 2021, based on her academic performance. She hopes to attend UCT or Wits after she matriculates and become a cardiologist. She is thrilled to be attending Curro Westbrook in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).
Her mother, Nombulelo Mqongozi (who has worked at KFC for nine years), said, “I am so happy and very proud of my daughter for this achievement.”
The scholarship programme is designed to assist in levelling the playing field for recipients and to change their lives by providing access to quality private education.
“I strongly believe that the more you learn, the quicker you grow and to be selected is testament that hard work pays off,” said Akhona Qengqe, chief people officer at KFC Africa. “We are proud to be able to help 24 lucky learners in not only furthering their education, but also giving them an opportunity to take another step forward in making their career dreams a reality.
“We wish Akhona, and our other 23 learners across the country, the very best of luck on their scholarship journey.”
Recipients will receive a full scholarship to attend a Curro School in their region and will remain recipients for as long as they meet the minimum criteria until they matriculate.
