YOUNG Lee Serfentine (13) from Hillside recently returned from a talent show competition in the USA called Talent America.

This talent competition takes place in New York and has been running for the past 45 years.

The competition showcases individuals who excel in various platforms such as singing, dancing and modelling.

Lee, who took part in the modelling competition, was crowned as Talent America’s Top Model.

“I look up to (supermodel) Tyra Banks and I only started modelling last year, so when they announced my name as the Top Model I was so excited,” said Lee.

The Grade 8 learner, who attends Andrew Rabie High School, does not only draw inspiration from supermodel Tyra Banks, but also has an interest in radiography as a future career.

Lee’s mom, Natasha Matroos, said, “We went through mounds of effort to raise funds for her to be able to go to America and participate in the competition so we are all extremely proud of her achievements.”

Being enrolled at model agency Sophisticate Models, she took part in a number of competitions including Talent Africa which eventually led her into participating in the Talent America Competition.

“I want to motivate all the young girls to not be afraid to follow your dreams and work hard at it,” concluded Lee.
