SEVEN dancers from the McWilliams Academy of Dance (M.A.D) in Gqeberha participated at the All-Ireland Irish Dancing Championships in Killarney, Ireland, in February.
They were Jenna Hayes, Carma Stephenson, Emma Wedderburn, Mia Jonker, Shanna du Plessis, Lara Fowlds and Alison Rennie.
“Attending the All Irelands Championships has been a wonderful opportunity for our top dancers to compete against the best Irish dancers in the world in their own age groups,” said M.A.D owner and principal teacher, Jennifer McWilliams.
“It is a chance to see what the best looks like, and to get an opinion as to how they rank against these dancers from the rest of the Irish dance world. I am thrilled with their results!”
Alison Rennie (girls’ 10-11 years) from Theodor Herzl Primary School and Shanna du Plessis (girls 15-16 years) from Collegiate High School did well, and both were recalled to dance again in their solo rounds. This means that the solo judge placed them in the top 50 in their respective age groups, out of approximately 100/120 dancers from across the world. They were awarded prestigious solo recall medals.
