LIVERPOOL FC proved beyond doubt that they have set their sights on winning Motherwell Football Association’s (MOFA) First Division trophy with their excellent performance in a 5–1 victory over New City Football Academy at Peace Park in Showvillage on Saturday.

Liverpool took the lead after 10 minutes, when Okuhle Ntsako pulled the trigger and scored the opening goal.

Sinethemba Bambiso was rewarded with a superb goal in the 15th minute after Ntsako crossed from the left. City hit back when Justin Jooste scored in the 19th minute that reduced his side’s deficit to 2–1.

Liverpool FC increased their lead to 3–1, after Bambiso squeezed the ball into the far post in the 37th minute. City’s Khanyiso Zondani was unlucky not to have scored as his efforts went very close to the goals in the 49th minute. Bambiso used a half-chance to bang in his third goal in the 78th minute. Liverpool cruised to a well-deserved 5–1 victory after Kamogelo Mboso came up with a last goal in the final moments.

MOFA First Division title contenders, Seven Sundowns Sports Club suffered an unexpected 5–4 defeat to Prince Academy after leading 4–2 for a long time. Sundowns’ goals were scored by Sandisuxolo Maxengana, Asemahle Mangesi, Lathitha Hobana and an own goal by an Academy defender. Academy goals came courtesy of their skipper Athenkosi Rawula (a hat-trick), Kuhle Madengana and Ayanda Nginda.

Other title contenders Abathunywa FC collected three league points after they hammered AmaXhosa FC 3–1, while FC Motherwell climbed to the top of the league log table following their 2–0 win over Young Lovers.
