The Friendly City Youth Ballet’s post-COVID performance of The Nutcracker was staged at the end of 2021 with sold-out performances, and this year they bring the much-loved ballet, Coppelia, to the Savoy Theatre, from July 4 to 7.

Coppelia is a charming tale of love, mischief, and magic, and offers audiences of all ages an unforgettable ballet experience.

The story follows the young couple, Swanhilda and Franz, and the mysterious Dr Coppelius, who creates a doll so lifelike that Franz falls in love with her.

The ballet is set to a beautiful score by Léo Delibes.

This production is staged by former principal dancer and artistic director of CTCB, Robin van Wyk, who has waved his magic wand over the local dancers to bring the audience a delightful production.

Leading roles will be performed by Cape Town guest artists, Kleto van Rooy, as Franz, and Ariel Kedem, as Swanhilda, while the inimitable character dancer, Johnny Bovang, performs the role of Dr Coppelius.

Local dancers will perform the roles of Swanhilda’s friends, the Waltz of the Hours, Garland Dancers, the dolls, and other roles.

Performances take place at the Savoy Theatre from July 4 to 7.

Performances take place at 19:00 on July 4 and 5, and at 14:30 and 18:00 on July 6.
