A liquor delivery truck transporting cases of liquor, was
hijacked on the R75 just outside Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) yesterday afternoon.
The truck was on its way to make a delivery when it was hijacked
at an intersection on Uitenhage Road at approximately 13:30.
According to police spokesperson, Capt. André Beetge, three
armed males forced the driver and his assistant into a silver VW Polo at gunpoint
and later dropped them off in an open space in Joe Slovo.
“The truck was found abandoned in Seweti Street, Joe Slovo,
a short while later, at about 14:15, by patrolling SAPS Rapid Rail Police
members,” Beetge said. “48 Cases of liquor were still on the truck,” he added.
Two male suspects, aged 26 and 27 years old, were found
carrying cases of liquor in the vicinity and arrested for possession of
suspected stolen property. They will be appearing before the New Brighton
Magistrates Court today.
