A CATFIGHT ensued when Lion City salvaged a late 2-2 draw, when they faced Major Chiefs in their SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay SAB Regional League game at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Saturday.
The game started very late because there was only a referee to control the game. Eventually, the two match officials and a fourth official arrived. Be that as it may, Chiefs took the game to City.
The visiting side had the lion’s share of ball possession, since City’s midfield looked disjointed.
Chiefs’ right full-back, Nkosinathi Ziwa, scored his club’s opening goal from the penalty spot, after one of City’s players was penalised for a handball. Chiefs extended their lead to 2-0 after Ziwa scored once again a penalty because City’s goalkeeper, Lwando Nkohla, impeded the Chiefs striker inside the box. Chiefs went to the break leading 2-0.
City’s experienced players, Zukisani Benni Ngalo and Zithulele Mayeye Zitho, came on as substitutes in the second half. The inclusion of Ngalo and Zitho paid dividends, as City played as a unit and launched attack after attack. Ludwe Sonjica banged in City’s opening goal.
Asanele Mnyanda scored the all-important equaliser late in the game.
