GQEBERHA – A fire broke out on the 17th floor of the Lillian Diedericks building, located in Govan Mbeki, Gqeberha, this morning, Wednesday, 23 September.

According to Sithembiso Soyaya, the spokesperson for Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, the municipal fire and rescue services were on site, and all staff were safely evacuated from the building.

“No injuries have been reported, and the building will remain closed,” he said.

Soyaya added that no one will be permitted to enter the building until Friday, 25 September, while safety assessments and investigations are conducted.

“The municipality urges the public to rely on official information and avoid speculation about the incident,” he concluded.
