THE LGBT+ community in Port Elizabeth will be hosting a fund-raising event in an effort to realise their dream of opening their own space.

This after Raltox (DJ Tox) and Deon Africa noticed that there was no decent space for people from the LGBT+ community to express themselves and their talents in Port Elizabeth.

“We find it important to create a space for our community (where all is welcome) that is safe, decent and a space where we can become a family and support each other.

“The LGBT+ community needs a space where artists can perform and events can be hosted.

“It’s important for our community to keep the LGBT+ events alive in Port Elizabeth, as this helps build confidence and adds a lot of purpose to our community members,” Africa said. The event will be held this coming Saturday at Vibe in Commercial Road.

Africa added, “We also want artists from our community to be able to use their talents to be able to make an extra income.

“We want to give them a space to grow as artists and to be able to perform on a more regular basis. We both have an enormous passion to want to be a part of our community and to empower the face of LGBT+ in Port Elizabeth.”

With the help of fellow organisers, Peter Dickinson and Lynton Radloff, the fundraising event guarantees a great line-up of dancers, singers and drag artists like Vicky, the current Miss Drag SA, and vocalist Lora Joplin.

The event, which starts at 20:00, will have an ‘80s theme and tickets are available at R70 pre-sold and R100 at the door.
