IN light of the current Covid-19 pandemic, Bonzai Primary School learners were asked to write a poem to illustrate their true feelings about the pandemic and keeping themselves safe during this time.

One poem stood out to principal, Phillip Bosch.

“The HOD of our intermediate phase section brought Grade 7 learner, Surbhi Sahoonja’s poem to me, as I have a system at school where we reward learners for efforts in the classroom, especially if it is an assignment they had completed in class, where their own work and initiative come to the fore,” Bosch said.

He said he felt that it was a really good effort that should be shared with others.

Surbhi Sahoonja’s poem:

Gotta wash our hands

Gotta wash gotta wash

Gotta wash gotta wash

Gotta wash gotta wash your hands

YOU, gotta wash them right

Don’t give into germs without a fight

Use water that’s warm

And lots of soapy bubbles

These are your weapons

For preventing germs troubles

Don’t cut your time short

Your fingers – got between

It takes twenty seconds

To make sure they are clean

The reward is to be healthy

After all just takes a selfie

Twinkle twinkle little star

Look how clean my hands are

Soap and water, wash and scrub

Get those germs off, rub – a – dub

Twinkle twinkle little star

Look how clean my two hands are

In light of trouble we have today

There’s just a few things I’d like to say

Share your kindness and your love

It’s no time to be mean, push and shove

Hold on to your loved ones, hold them tight

Listen to the rules and do what’s right
