Azizipho Langbooi, a 19-year-old learner, was stabbed to death outside the gates of Rocklands High School on Elandsriver Road in Rocklands as learners were released to go home on Friday, July 26.

According to the Director of the Khula Community Development, Petros Majola, this occurred after there was allegedly an argument and then a physical altercation between male learners from the Greenbushes and Kariega areas.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, said that upon SAPS arrival, the body of Langbooi, a grade 10 learner, was found with a stab wound on his neck.

“It is alleged that a 17-year-old grade 9 learner and the deceased were in a fight, and he was injured during the fight,” Mawisa reported.

“A murder case was opened and is being investigated by SAPS Kabega Park,” said Mawisa.

Mawisa added that the suspect was released under parental care to appear at Nerina Youth Centre Court on August 2.

As a reaction to Langbooi’s death, Majola, said that on Monday, July 29, he with MEC of Department of Education, Fundile Gade, and their Head of Department, Sharon Maasdorp will activate the relevant section to conduct trauma debriefing to all learners, especially those who witnessed when their fellow friend lost his life.

“Hon. MEC for Department of Social Development, Ms. Bukiwe Fanta, will also be expected to activate her Nelson Mandela Bay Metro office to do as they always do in these shocking situations,” said Majola.

He further said that he will be visiting the bereaved family and will also be at Rocklands High School on Monday, July 29.
