The 2024 Formula
1 season rolls into the glitzy streets of Las Vegas this weekend for what
promises to be another thrilling showdown under the famed lights of the strip.

Fresh off a dominant win in Brazil, Max Verstappen is riding high on
confidence. His Interlagos performance was a masterclass in pace and supreme
driving skill, solidifying his status as a modern great of the sport. However,
the Las Vegas circuit presents a fresh challenge, and Verstappen knows he’ll
face stiff competition here.

McLaren, in
particular, will be eager to make their mark. The team’s standout performances
throughout the season have been nothing short of remarkable, and despite a below
par outing in Brazil, the high-speed straights and technical corners of Vegas
play to their car’s strengths. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have proven
themselves as formidable contenders, and both will be hungry to remind the
paddock of McLaren’s resurgence as a top team.

The Las Vegas
circuit, in only its second year on the calendar, is a street track like no
other. Stretching 6.12 kilometres, the layout winds its way through the heart
of the Strip, flanked by the city’s iconic neon skyline. It features 17 turns,
including challenging hairpins, sweeping curves, and a high-speed straight that
offers one of the longest DRS zones of the season. Precision will be key, as
the tight barriers leave little margin for error, while the mix of corner types
demands a finely tuned setup to balance straight-line speed with downforce.

Ferrari are also
expected to be in the mix. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have shown flashes
of brilliance this season, and both will be looking to capitalize on any
slip-ups from the frontrunners. It may be a bit more difficult to predict how
Mercedes will fare given their recent run of form. Vegas being another street
circuit may not play to their strengths though.

As the sun sets
and the lights come on, the stage is set for a spectacular showdown. Can
Verstappen maintain his momentum, or will McLaren strike back in the city of
dreams?
