LAKE Farm Centre is inviting friends and family to make a difference and enter this year’s Hybrid Lake Farm Centre Charity Run and Ride events on March 12 and 13.

Lake Farm Centre has decided to host a hybrid fund-raiser this year – a safe blend of virtual and physical events for a donation of R100 per person.

Join the virtual event, a 5km walk and/or ride of 5km, 10km, 25km, 50km, 75km or 100km over the fund-raising weekend, from 08:00 on Saturday to 12:00 on Sunday.

Alternatively, those living in the Nelson Mandela Bay area, are invited to join the fun for the 5km walk/run starting at 07:30 on Saturday. All 5km participants will receive the iconic handmade Lake Farm Centre medal.

Lake Farm Centre will also be reopening their coffee shop on March 12 to coincide with the 27th edition of their annual fund-raiser.

Their popular coffee shop, which will continue to trade after the weekend fund-raiser every Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00, will have a wide variety of treats on sale with their Masterton’s coffee.

Various handcrafted workshop items, made by residents, will also be on sale, from handmade woollen mates, bags and pottery.

The centre, which faces the challenge of making ends meet in a tough fund-raising industry and slow economy, organises the Lake Farm Centre Charity Weekend as their biggest annual fund-raising platform.

“As always, the ultimate goal is to raise much-needed funds and create awareness for Lake Farm Centre, a residential centre for intellectually challenged adults,” said Amelia Laubscher, general manager of Lake Farm Centre.

“The return of the fun 5km walk/run will also create a safe, fun and meaningful family experience, and afford the residents the opportunity to mingle with the community at this wonderful event in the country.”

This year the Lake Farm Centre celebrates 62 years of providing a home and work place for 90 intellectually challenged residents.

The centre has 43 staff members, with 37 residing at the centre, ensuring the 24-hour support and care the centre requires. They provide 10 separate work groups generating employment and the opportunity for residents to make a valuable contribution to the running and upkeep of the centre.

Local companies are also encouraged to continue to support the popular Lake Farm Centre Race Book, now in a digital format and promoted on the Lake Farm Centre website.

Donate R100 online today or grab your family and friends, head out to Lake Farm Centre in Kragga Kamma, and make a difference by entering this year’s Lake Farm Centre Charity 5km walk/run, and supporting their coffee shop. Enter online at www.lakefarm.org.za.
