EDUCATING and empowering young girls and women was the driving force behind the IIE’s Varsity College Port Elizabeth’s recently hosted annual Ladies to Legends event.

Ladies to Legends resonates the belief that when one empowers and educates young girls and women on important matters, they could become instrumental to economic growth and social change.

Michelle Brown, owner of Brown’s PR, led panellists Kelly Adams (beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogger), Oumi Kulthum (owner Demiguard, a budding translation and interpretations company), Tasneem Fredericks (director of Fredericks Incorporated) and Nombasa Nkonyeni (social worker) on thought-provoking topics, such as women and business, self worth and living your best life.

“My highlight was the realisation that any woman can become a legend. The empowering speeches and panel discussions of the evening were a reminder to the ladies who attended that we should never feel inferior just because of our gender.

“We, as women, need to stand together through everything and support each other. We have the power to create our own success,” said Jessica Springer, IIE Bachelor of Education foundation phase student.

Louise Wiseman, managing director of The IIE’s Varsity College, added, “Self-development is important as it allows us to develop our internal drivers and motivators. It is these drivers that enable us to become the best version of ourselves.

“Now in its fifth year, our Ladies to Legends event continues to be a great source of motivation and inspiration for young women who crave self development.”

Those in attendance included The IIE’s Varsity College students and alumni, Grade 12 learners, school teachers and industry professionals.
