A KWAZAKHELE Taekoshin Dojo student and Grade 2 learner at WB Tshume Primary School won a trophy and a medal during the International Karate Organisation (IKO) Namura Competition that took place in Durban recently.

Esethu Klaas (7) came second in the competition in which she claimed a silver medal and a trophy in the IKO seven-year-old girls’ category. Esethu said she worked very hard and thanked her sensei for helping her win the trophy.

Esethu’s mother, Thembakazi Klaas, said she was very proud to see her daughter winning the trophy, as she had not expected any silverware.

“I was just wanting to see my daughter take part in sport and to get exposure but she excelled in the seven-year-old girls’ category. There were challenges but I managed to collect R1 400 for match fees and the transport, as the tournament was held over two days.

“I would like to thank all the people who supported my daughter financially especially Esethu’s school,” said Klaas.
