LOCAL children have been issued a challenge to become business-savvy by joining a unique market this Saturday.

They can either go solo or team up with a friend, get their parents to help them set up their stall and start working on their first sale.

And anything goes, from arts and crafts to food or jewellery can be sold at the market.

Children between the ages of six and 18 are invited to join this market.

“The objective is for them to learn entrepreneurship, develop self-confidence, learn to deal with the public, learn basic maths, and to become aware of the hard work that goes into earning money,” said event organiser, Sumaya Amod.

“They will come up with an idea to sell an item or a service and then run the stall with the supervision of an adult/parent.

“They must decorate their stalls to attract people and business. I will choose the best efforts and they win a voucher or small prize.

“In the end I hope they will learn how to work with money and how to interact with the community and some valuable interpersonal skills, as well as teamwork and how to run a small business. I hope they make some money too.”

The market will take place at the Malabar Community Centre on Saturday, June 29, from 09:30 to 16:00.
