Three Grade 7 learners made Khulile Primary School very proud after they won accolades in the Science2Go Project competition awards ceremony that took place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Science Centre in Kariega recently.
According to Khulile Primary School deputy principal, Zomzi Mantile, the Science2Go Project is run by the Centre for the Advancement of Science and Mathematics Education (CASME) in partnership with Ford South Africa.
Mantile said, “The aim of Science2Go is to stimulate an interest in science at an early age by capacitating, motivating, and supporting teachers to do hands-on scientific investigations in their classrooms and providing the necessary resources.”
Khulile Primary is the only school from Motherwell that participates in the Science2Go Project.”
Khulile Primary science educator, Alfred Nelani, reported that the learners were using coding and robotics during the project in class. Nelani said, “The use of coding and robotics assists the learners in developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, enhances teamwork, builds confidence, and fosters computational thinking.”
Khulile Primary gave their learners the opportunity to write the work of three terms in order to select 20 learners with the best marks.
Finally, three learners came out on top. The top learner, Cwenga Mlomzale, received a trophy, gold medal, and certificates, while Kuhle Shode and Linathi Sonanzi each received a certificate.
