Kabega neighbourhood watch apprehend alleged murder,robbery suspects

  • Two suspects were apprehended by the neighbourhood watch in Kabega Park aftter allegedly robbing and murdering a 60-year-old. 
  • Both suspects are detained on charges of murder, house robbery, and possession of suspected stolen property.

Two suspects who allegedly robbed and murdered a 60-year-old man from Van Plettenberg Street in Kabega Park were apprehended by the Kabega neighbourhood watch in the early hours of this morning.

The suspects aged 30- and 38-years-old were stopped and upon searching their bags, the neighbourhood watch discovered a laptop, medicine container, cigarettes and meat.

“Police were contacted and further investigation led to a house in Van Plettenberg Street where they found the owner lying on the bed. He sustained a deep wound on his head. An axe was found next to the bed. Entry to the house was gained by forcing a sliding door open,” Colonel Priscilla Naidu of SAPS said.

“Both suspects are detained on charges of murder, house robbery and possession of suspected stolen property. They are expected to appear in court soon,” Naidu added. 

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata commended the neighbourhood watch for the excellent work. ’When communities start working together towards a common cause towards protecting their neighbourhoods, criminals will have no chance to conduct their activities,’ added Maj Gen Ncata. 

“The role of Community Policing Forums, neighbourhood watches and private security as force multipliers on the ground play a critical role in ensuring that their respective neighbourhoods are safe from criminals,” the police statement read.
