EVERY year, Achilles Amateur Athletic Association hosts their Run for Toys. This year the event will be held on Tuesday, December 6, and promises to be loads of fun for everyone.
Whether you run or walk, everyone is welcome to join in the festivities of the evening. Achilles’ Run for Toys will start at 17:30 at Little Walmer Golf Club, 79 River Road. Delicious boerewors rolls will be on sale for R25, as well as refreshments.
“The aim for the event is to collect donations for The Sanctuary Old Age Home and The Kids of Tomorrow NPO who do wonderful work with children in the Walmer area. We will also be accepting donations of pet food, which we will distribute to P.E.A.R,” explained event organiser Cindi Bester.
There is a new format this year: the usual Tuesday evening club run is open to everyone; however, it is unmarshalled and unmarked. The second option is the family-friendly route within the golf course. This route will be marked and marshalled and is 3.3km.
“Father Christmas is making a special trip from the north pole to test out his back-up sleigh in the event that Rudolph acts up this year. Parents are welcome to bring a gift for their children with their name and surname clearly marked.
Achilles AAA would like to challenge other running clubs in the metro to join us for this festive evening in support of these charities,” said Bester.
“Further, Paul Wolff (Ironman South Africa) challenges all Ironman contestants to join in and donate towards these great charities. Should you wish to just drop off a donation and leave, you are also most welcome to.”
The entry fee is an item of clothing, a toy, non-perishable food items or pet food.
RSVP to Cindi Bester on 082 891 5537 by December 4 and indicate boerewors roll orders.
“There will also be great lucky draw prizes and we would like to thank our sponsors and supporters: Richard Pearce Photography, Taniaz Photography, Citywide Security, Gareth Burley for Sound and MC duties, Bukani Print, Woodlands Diary, Little Walmer Golf Club, Trailbusters, Hair by Tanya, Shell Sherwood, Brian Bands Sports and Superspar Sunridge.”
