The McWilliams Academy of Dance studio in Gqeberha again claimed the Top Studio award at the La Lucia Irish Dance Championships in Durban on August 24.

“Our dancers excelled in their sections, bringing home the Top Studio award for the third year in a row. It is a privilege to work with dancers who are so dedicated to their art,” said teacher, Jennifer McWilliams.

Isobel Cunningham (ADCRG) travelled all the way from Ulster, Ireland, to adjudicate the event and enjoyed visiting South Africa for the first time.

The following dancers excelled on the day:

  • Shanna du Plessis (17) – Champion of the Special Section for girls 16 to 18 years
  • Alison Rennie (12) – Champion of the Special Section for girls 15 years and under
  • T anith Brito – Won the PC5 section (“Mean Ghrad”)
  • Kate Rose-Innes – Won the PC4 section (“Advanced Tus Ghrad”)

The McWilliams Academy will continue the hard work and is preparing for the 20th South African Irish Dance Championships to be held in Johannesburg at the end of September.
