The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Gqeberha is seeking assistance from the community in tracing a suspect that allegedly raped a woman in a taxi and left her at the side of the road on Monday, September 19.
At approximately 17:30 the complainant was on her way home when she boarded a taxi in Beach Road in the vicinity of McArthur pools in Summerstrand. While in the taxi, she was allegedly blindfolded and her cell phone taken.
Police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said that the taxi later stopped and she was then allegedly raped by one of the occupants in the taxi.
“She was left on the side of the road and when she felt that it was safe, she took off the blindfold and noticed that she was in Russell Road, Central. She sought help from the community and a case was reported at SAPS Humewood,” Janse van Rensburg said.
Anyone who can assist in identifying the suspect or provide information that could lead to an arrest, is asked to contact D/Const. Mziwethemba Klaas on 082 565 0189 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
