ST Francis Hospice is calling on all collectors, resellers, antique lovers and passionate enthusiasts to visit the Hospice Silent Auction, which is running until March 16.

The annual event is back and booming with stunning items on auction this year, from antique porcelain tea sets, ornate glassware and jewellery to vintage ornaments, collectables and paintings.

Resources manager, Nicky von Hoffmann, has welcomed the variety of items on auction this year, as well as the support shown by the public thus far.

“We, at Hospice, are so grateful for those who have been to the auction and who have bid so generously. It is only through the support of a generous community that we are able to continue our vital work.”

St Francis Hospice currently provides home-based palliative care to about 240 patients living with a life-limiting illness such as cancer, AIDS and motor neurone disease in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and Kouga area, as well as giving support to their families.

Events, such as the silent auction, generate income which assists Hospice in being able to care for these patients, many of whom are from impoverished households.

How does it work?

For those unfamiliar with a silent auction set up, Hospice staff and volunteers are there to assist. Those interested in bidding on items are encouraged to visit the auction at a time which is convenient to them.

Bidders can pop in for a few minutes, place their bids and deposit their bidding sheets in the secure box. The bids are then entered daily into a computerised system and at the end of the auction, the item is sold to the highest bidder.

Hospice staff will contact you to arrange payment and collection.

Visit the silent auction at Hospice head office in Hospice Lane, off Warbler Street in Taybank (Cotswold).

The auction is open daily from March 1 to March 16, Mondays to Thursdays from 09:00 to 15:30pm, Fridays from 09:00 to 13:00, and Saturdays from 09:00 to 12:00.
