IN celebration of Arbor Month, staff from Checkers Newton Park and 60 Grade 1 learners from Herbert Hurd Primary School recently planted trees at the school.
Herbert Hurd is one of five schools which have partnered with Checkers in the Eastern Cape to raise awareness of the importance of caring for the environment and preserving it for future generations.
The staff and learners teamed up to plant trees which are indigenous to the environment and do not need daily watering or maintenance.
The four other schools which participated were Nahoon Primary School in East London, Formosa Primary School and Plettenberg Bay Primary in Plettenberg Bay and Wittedrift High School.
