Armed assailants ambushed a security guard at a mall in Greenacres, seizing two boxes before fleeing. Despite a pursuit and collision with the getaway vehicle, the suspects escaped. The abandoned vehicle was found later, indicating a switch to another car.

According to police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that at about 10:25 this morning, security guards were parked at one of the entrances at the mall on Ring Street in Greenacres in Gqeberha.

“As one guard proceeded to enter the mall, approximately four to six armed men rushed at him and grabbed the two boxes and fled,” said Naidu.

She said when the driver of the security vehicle chased after them in his vehicle, several shots were fired at him.

Naidu further added, he succeeded in ramming into their getaway vehicle, a Nissan NP 200 bakkie, the vehicle managed to speed away, and no injuries sustained.

“It is further alleged that the bakkie was abandoned in Kipling Street and the suspects hijacked another vehicle and sped off.”

A case of CIT robbery will be investigated by the Hawks.
