The Hawks are seeking community assistance to gather more information regarding the cash-in-transit (CIT) heist involving a G4S vehicle that occurred yesterday, December 9, on the M17, in Motherwell and Kwazakhele.

According to Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Avele Fumba, the incident happened at about 16:00, where the G4S vehicle was allegedly ambushed by two bakkies with heavily armed suspects carrying explosives to access the G4S vehicle.

Fumba said once the suspects accessed the vehicle, they fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and headed to Kwazakhele.

“During a high-speed chase, suspects opened fire on the police, leading the police to return fire. Six suspects were injured in the crossfire,” he reported.

Fumba revealed that police discovered five rifles and two pistols from the suspects.

He further reported that during the incident, a suspect attempting to evade arrest hijacked a vehicle, also involving a mother and her baby inside the vehicle. However, he revealed that both mother and baby were rescued and hopitalised.

The six suspects involved in a Cash-In-Transit robbery (CIT) heist, will appear before the Motherwell Magistrate court on December 11.
