Hawks arrest suspect attempting to smuggle drugs to France via Postnet

Dirk Wismeijer (57) was arrested after he attempted to smuggle 12.44 grams of “tik” (Metamphetamine) worth more than R4000 to France via Postnet at The Acres near Green Acres Shopping Centre in Gqeberha.

The Gqeberha based South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) of Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) team of the Hawks arrested Dirk Wismeijer (57) at Lemon 3 Guest Lodge in Kirkwood on May 19 for charges of dealing in drugs. 

According to Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, it is alleged that on May 18 at around 14:00 Wismeijer attempted to smuggle 12.44 grams of “tik” (Metamphetamine) worth more than R4000 to France via Postnet at The Acres near Green Acres Shopping Centre in Gqeberha.

She said Wismeijer was investigated by SOCI under an enquiry where after the warrant of his arrest was authorised hence his arrest on May 19.

“Wismeijer appeared in the Gqeberha New Law Court the very same day and he was released on R5000 bail. His passport was also seized,” said Mgolodela.

She said the matter is remanded to June 2 for appointment of legal representative.
