IN celebration of Child Protection Week, the ACVV Newton Park-Haas Das Early Childhood Development Centre, in Algoa Park, delivered a special programme together with other protection networks to form partnerships of protection.
According to Haas Das ECD Centre principal, Dollie Nel, the ACVV is a child protection agency and takes abuse in any form very seriously.
Haas Das children visited the SAPS in Algoa Park and handed out treat boxes to members as a gesture of thanks for being part of their protection network.
They also paid a surprise visit to Iris Park Retirement Village, for a tea time treat for all residents. “During Child Protection Week, parents were invited to attend an informative gathering so information could be shared by our network partners to keep our vulnerable children safe,” Nel said.
Haas Das children were shown a puppet show to teach them tools to protect themselves.
They not only highlighted child abuse, but also held a special Day Without Shoes, an ACVV initiative, to teach the young children to have empathy for the less fortunate children who don’t have such basic items, as winter started.
Protection programmes are held throughout the year, but this special week’s events were dedicated to empower, educate and encourage others to speak out.
