The first rugby teams of Grey High and Muir College will both be hungry for the taste of victory when they clash on Saturday.
They tackle each other at the Kolisi Field at Grey in Gqeberha, in what should be a very interesting match.
The Kariega visitors were involved in a tough match this past Saturday when they lost to Despatch.
An organised Despatch outfit produced a polished performance to win an entertaining encounter 22–14.
Although Muir could not manage a victory, they showed enough in this match to indicate that they will be no pushover when taking on the Grey boys.
The season is coming to an end, and for matric learners the end of many years of school matches is in sight.
For some it will be the last time they play at their own school, and this will be the case with the Grey matric players.
The match against Muir is the last home game for Grey this year. There is no doubt Grey will put in a big effort after two consecutive losses at home, first against Framesby and this past Saturday against the classy Grey College from Bloemfontein.
The match against Framesby could have gone either way, but it was always going to be a tough task in the derby against the Free State visitors.
College won the match 38–14, scoring six tries to two, but the Gqeberha boys were tough opposition and played much better than was the case against Framesby.
A motivated Grey High did especially well in the first half and there was only a seven-point difference, 14–7, at half-time.
Things got a bit tougher in the second half, but Grey High should take enough from this match to be confident of victory against Muir.
The two Grey tries were both scored by their hooker and captain, Imaani Pemba, after impressive rolling mauls from the lineouts.
Pemba is one of three Eastern Province players who were included in the South African u/18 squad for the upcoming International Series against France and England.
The other EP players are Batho Hlekani (Graeme College, flanker) and Dominic Malgas (Nico Malan, flyhalf).
The SA team will play against France u/18 on August 15, and will tackle England four days later in the Western Cape.
