THE South African High Schools Championship 2022was played at Humewood on Monday, August 1 and Tuesday, August 2.
The national final consisted of 23 teams that had to qualify by winning their regional finals in their respective provinces.
Grey High School’s first and second golf teams managed to win the Eastern Province regional final to qualify for the event.
The Grey High’s first team included, Jean Upman (captain), Devon Valentine, Jon Hobson, and Othimna Matiwana. The second team included, Gabriel Ross (captain), Matthew Tiemann, Bryce Paxton, and Charles Rose-Innes.
Both teams played extremely well and represented the Eastern Province with pride.
The school’s first team finished in third place and the second team finished in 11th place.
This makes these two Grey high teams officially the third and 11th best teams in the country for the 2022 season.
First team golf player, Devon Valentine, won the individual competition with a score of five under par and is now the National Schools individual champion.
Gerhard Hills, the Grey High School golf coach, was very proud of both his teams and was delighted with their performance.
