Walmer police have opened an inquest following a shack fire that claimed the life of a 41-year-old man in Airport Valley, Walmer location today, October 30.
According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 04:00 on the abovementioned date, SAPS Walmer responded to a complaint of a burning house in Airport Valley.
“On arrival, police were informed that a woman and her boyfriend were sleeping in the shack. When the couple woke up, they noticed that the shack was burning. The woman ran out to get help and was under the impression that her boyfriend followed her; however, the fire spread, and two more shacks burned,” said Janse Van Rensburg.
“After the fire was extinguished, the body of the Siphosethu Magebula was found.”
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
