THIS round went to the Gqeberha schools with the First XV rugby teams of Pearson and Framesby beating their respective Kariega counterparts convincingly.
Pearson has kept catching the eye with some fine performances this year, and was on song again at home last Saturday against Daniel Pienaar. Pearson won 48–17.
Framesby travelled to Kariega to take on Die Brandwag and was always in command, winning 35–8.
A Gqeberha side that struggled was Grey High going down to Graeme College in Makhanda. The home side won 22–8.
Earlier in the week there was good news for Grey High, when the secretary of the Eastern Province High Schools Rugby Association, Neville Botha, released the sides to play in the upcoming national Youth Weeks.
Grey hooker, Imaani Pemba, has been named captain of the EP u/18 team for this year’s Craven Week. This prestigious week will be played from July 3 to 7 in George. On the first day EP will take on Free State.
The EP side has many players with experience of playing in provincial weeks, and this will help them to stand their ground in George.
Pemba will lead a strong pack of forwards, and players from Marlow Agricultural dominate the backline.
The Marlow halfback pairing of Dempers Meyer and Aiden de Villiers will fulfil a key role for EP. Meyer is the vice-captain.
Flyhalf, Praise Matsila, of Kingswood College, is the captain of the u/18 Academy Week team while Pietman Kleynhans of Nico Malan will lead the u/16 team at the Grant Khomo Week.
