Ruan Lundt, a 37-year-old prosthetist who creates artificial
limbs for individuals with disabilities, appeared in the Gqeberha New Law Magistrates Court on July 23, for allegedly defrauding the Road
Accident Fund (RAF).

Lundt was arrested by the Gqeberha-based Serious Corruption
Investigation team of the Hawks shortly before his court appearance.

Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said it is
alleged that in 2022, Lundt submitted quotes with seven claims to RAF in both his
company’s name, Lundt Orthotics & Prosthetics Incorporated, and that
of Moolman Orthopaedics’ company name without Moolman’s knowledge.

She said it is further alleged that the quotes submitted were
orchestrated to ensure that the funds would be deposited into his account.

“A payout to the value of more than R290 000 was
allegedly paid to Lundt’s company as the first tranche,” said Mgolodela.

She said after discovering some red flags in the claims, the
matter was referred to the Hawks for probing, saving RAF a further potential
prejudice of more than R440 000.

After Lundt’s court appearance on July 23, Mgolodela said he
was released on a warning and the matter was remanded to August 23, for legal
representation.
