The tenacity and commitment of a SAPS Humewood detective saw a 55-year-old Gqeberha man arrested for the alleged murder of his 39-year-old girlfriend on Friday July 8, 2002.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu, it is alleged that on Sunday July, 3, 2022, at about 08:00, a resident at a block of flats situated at the corners of Deare and Pearson Streets in Humewood was walking to his vehicle in the parking lot when he noticed the body of a female lying on the ground.
“The woman sustained serious head injuries. At the time police opened an inquest docket pending further investigation,” Naidu said.
Naidu added that the victim and the suspect were living together on the fourth floor of the building.
“Upon initial questioning, the boyfriend told the police that he left the flat at about 16:00 and went out for a drink, leaving his girlfriend, Andiswa Mpiyana sleeping. Further investigation and probing by the investigating officer indicated that Mpiyana did not commit suicide bringing to light a suspicion of foul play.”
The boyfriend was arrested and charged with murder and will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate Court on Monday July, 11, 2022.
