GQEBERHA – A 44-year-old kidnapping victim has been safely released and reunited with his family after being held captive for three days, the Hawks confirmed today.
According to Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana the victim was released at approximately 22:15 last night.
“The Hawks can confirm that a 44-year-old victim was released at approximately 22:15 on 17 October, in the Motherwell area. He was safely reunited with family,” Mhlakuvana said. “The investigation continues, at the moment no arrest has been effected.”
The kidnapping was initially reported to local police on Monday, 14 October, after the man was taken from Glendinningvale, Gqeberha.
At the time police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge stated that no ransom demand had been made at that stage of the investigation.
Due to the serious nature of the crime, the case was escalated to the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit, which specialises in complex criminal matters.
Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping or the identity of the victim.
