Gqeberha Border Policing members together with the Environmental Health Department, brand agents and the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) shut down another bakery in Sanctor, yesterday morning, July 26, due to unhygienic conditions.

According to police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that the Environmental Health department received a “tip off” of the unhygienic and filthy operation in which bread was baked at this facility.

She said at about 10:00, with the assistance of Gqeberha Border Policing, the bakery was visited and inspected.

“It was then subsequently closed by the relevant authorities under the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act 54/1972 (regulation 638 of 2018), concern hygienic requirements for the handling, transporting and storage of food.

“An enquiry is under investigation by the relevant authority.

“The machinery and baking ingredients were confiscated,” said Naidu.

This is the second bakery that has been closed within a week due to unclean and unhealthy working operations.
