This Christmas, you are being dared to do something different: give a little instead of just receiving.
Isivuno Training, which provides preschool teacher training and offers mentoring and support to preschools, relies on fundraising to keep their NPO running, and they need a hand (many hands, really) to help make a success of their next fundraising event.
Summerstrand’s Local Christmas Market will take place on Saturday, December 2, at Summerstrand Community Church, 48 Erasmus Drive, from 09:00 to 15:00.
It promises to be fun for the whole family with all things Christmas, art, cakes, clothing, food, plants, gifts and much more. Children can even get a photo with Father Christmas if they bring a gift (preloved toys, crayons, books, stationery, etc.) from 10:00 to 12:00. The market will be in aid of Isivuno’s preschools and these donated gifts will be given to disadvantaged preschools.
Why Isivuno Training?
We all want a better future for our children . . . for all children. How is that possible? There are many preschools in townships and rural areas that are trying hard, but struggling to give the little ones a basic foundation.
Many NPOs are supporting communities, but it costs them.
Here is just an idea of what township preschools need: food donations, basic preschool furniture, toys, pre-loved books, help with maintenance and financial donations.
In the end, however, it is better to help the preschools to help themselves through basic skills like cooking healthy but affordable meals, how to budget, first aid, etc.
The Isivuno preschool teacher training is done in small groups of 10 teachers per training session. Most preschool classes have 20 or more children, so a single training group can impact up to 200 children.
“We want teachers to follow a daily programme and use themes to present their lessons. As we are Biblically-based, we want the children to learn Godly values as we know when you ‘train up a child in the way he should go, when he is older he will not depart from it.’ (Proverbs 22:6)
“It is important to also have people’s dignity and self-worth in mind and when we help them to help themselves, we achieve more. We require teachers to pay a nominal amount towards the training cost to show their commitment. For this they receive five full days of training as well as four books, including detailed lesson plans for a whole year. We excite our teachers to do more, to make their own resources, to use recycled material and to realise you can do a lot with little.”
Isivuno is dependent on support from individuals, churches, and companies. If they are a registered public benefit organisation they can provide their sponsors with a Section 18A tax exemption certificate.
Get involved. Support them with food or preloved books, stationery or toys. Or support a teacher to attend training. “Together, we can make a difference.”
