Why does every bonsai I buy die? Good question. The most common mistake is that bonsai is a tree, not a pot plant, and that’s where the trouble begins.
A bonsai tree needs the same elements as any tree – sun, rain and yes, even wind. And even better … fertiliser.
It needs to be loved. Like any hobby, what you put in is what you get out.
You may have been to a Bonsai Annual Show before, but each year the shows are different as new members join and new trees make their appearance.
The show will have over 100 trees on display at the German Club in Lorraine Street, Lorraine, on Saturday, November 11 from 09:00 to 17:00 and Sunday, November 12 from 09:00 to 16:00.
Entry is R20 per adult, R10 per scholar and is free to children under 12.
There will be demos throughout the day and a bonsai re-potting service available for a small fee. Don’t be shy about asking for free advice from senior growers on your problem trees.
Trees, pots, tools, wire and much more will also be for sale and there will be raffle prizes to be won, including a bonsai tree.
