Four people died after they were gunned down outside a
tavern in KwaZakhele last night (Saturday).
The victims, Lusanda Matebele (age unknown) Luyanda Steven
Fumana (36) Sisanda Cele (age unknown) and Sandile Ngqondo (35) all sustained
multiple gunshot wounds.
According to police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, it
is alleged that at approximately 20:00, a grey VW hatchback Polo with two males
arrived at the tavern in Mjamba Street and started shooting randomly at the
people outside.
“Three people, two males and a female, were fatally injured
while the fourth victim was gunned down walking home from the tavern. He was
shot not far from the scene in another street, allegedly by the same suspects.
He succumbed to his injuries in hospital,” Naidu said.
She added that the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation
in Nelson Mandela Bay are on the hunt for two suspects allegedly involved in shooting
the innocent people.
The motive for the shooting and the suspects are unknown at
this stage.
Provincial police commissioner, Lt. Gen. Liziwe Ntshinga,
has expressed her shock and contempt at the callous and cold-blooded murder of
the victims and called on the community to take a stand and expose these
criminals.
“I am appealing to the communities to assist the police in
tracing these heartless criminals and not harbour them. Innocent lives are lost
and we cannot condone such lawlessness. We take this act of criminality
seriously and it will not be tolerated.
“Given the seriousness of what has happened, the 72-hour
activation plan is implemented and a team of senior seasoned detectives
have been assigned to conduct this investigation, trace these suspects and
bring them to book,” she added.
