ALEXANDRIA-BORN veteran goalkeeper, Nkosinathi Rooi Mintoli, is in the process of raising funds in his quest to start a goalkeeper training academy in Veeplaas.
Mintoli started playing as a goalkeeper for Royal Bucks, Young Stars and United Brothers at local football level, while in the regional league he played for Fairview Rovers and Callies FC.
Mintoli also played for PE Tech, Louisville Pirates, Zulu Royals and Bloemfontein Young Tigers FC, a team which campaigned in the National First Division (NFD).
When he hung up his boots, Mintoli decided to coach goalkeeping.
He started coaching Royal Bucks U/16 in 1993 and conducted his duties at Bucks with distinction; so much so that some of the other clubs were interested in his services.
Mintoli said that he had coached SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Regional League teams Real City, Despatch Pioneers and FC Winners.
“Currently, I am coaching SAFA NMB SAB Regional League side, Young Teenagers, in Veeplaas, where I stay. I also coached these ABC Motsepe League outfits: Real City, SUBS, Young Ideas and Abathembu Warriors,” said Mintoli.
He also completed the KNVB level one coaching course in 2013 and CAF licences D and C. With the coaching skills that Mintoli had acquired, he decided to make a huge difference in his community.
He said, “At this time, I am raising funds to start my goalkeeper training academy in Veeplaas. I desperately need a donation of some gloves, balls, marker and training equipment for the young boys and girls.
“A donation in any form that would make our project a resounding success would be appreciated,” he said.
