During the early hours of Saturday morning, 5 June a man and his son died in a shack fire in William Slammert Drive in Bethelsdorp.
According to Col Priscilla Naidu, police spokesperson, it is alleged that around 01:30 police responded to a complaint of a shack on fire.
“The fire brigade was summoned and the fire was extinguished, however, at about 05:00 a fire once again erupted in the shack next to the one that burnt in the same yard at the back of the main house. In the second shack, two men were found burnt. The deceased were identified as Aston McKay (approximately 53-years old) and Alistair McKay (approximately 24-years old).”
The cause of the fire will be investigated and police have opened an inquest docket.
