The Eastern Cape mother accused of killing her four children with a sledgehammer has died.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said Nomboleko Simayile died on Sunday after falling ill while in police custody.
“She reported to the police that she was not feeling well but did not say what the nature of the sickness was. She was then immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, where she allegedly died,” Kinana said.

He added that the cause of death is yet to be established once a postmortem has been conducted.
The four children, aged between two and 11, were laid to rest on Friday, November 18. The mother could not attend the funeral following hospitalisation on Thursday, November 17.
Simayile had already appeared in the Engcobo Magistrate Court on murder charges. However, the case was remanded to November 29, 2022, for a formal bail hearing.
An inquest docket has been registered for investigation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
