THE residents of the Buffelsfontein Retirement Village in Walmer will now have access to a panic button to assist with future break-ins.
This initiative has recently been launched after a breach and intrusion at the village in which four residents were traumatised over break-ins and thefts at their residences.
Algoa Bay Council for the Aged (ABCA) management has met with Atlas Security to discuss the security options of the residents to ensure their safety.
All residents will be issued with a panic button to wear, which will be linked to their unit and to their phone.
In the event of any emergency, the panic button is pressed to notify Atlas.
According to ABCA’s public relations officer, Christa Terblanche, Atlas was contracted by ABCA to monitor the communal areas and the fence alarm. The panic buttons were offered as the best affordable option.
“The ABCA night manager will also be able to monitor the alarms. The system also includes a “gate keeper” that will remove the need for tags and replace gate access with a phone-in system,” Terblanche said.
The 420 panic buttons are currently being programmed by Atlas to assist all residents at Buffelsfontein Retirement Village.
