ATHLETES from across South Africa came to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) to compete for a sought-after SA Bench Press title, at an event on March 13, at Cape Recife School in Summerstrand.
The Eastern Cape produced some of the national winners, claiming some new South African national records.
In the female event:
.Heike Groenewald in the sub-junior, u/69kg division set a new SA record of 57.5kg
. Vanessa Lessing, in the master 1, u/69kg set a new SA record of 68kg.
. Miriam Sinclair in the master 3, u/57kg set a new SA record of 55kg.
In the male event:
. Jacques Fourie in the open u/59kg division, set a new SA record of 115kg.
. Jared Leask in the open 120kg+ division, set a new SA record of 217.5kg.
These five powerlifters are joined by the following members of Eastern Cape Powerlifting, who have been selected for the South African bench press team to compete at the Bench Press World Championships later this year:
