DIBA Lam Services organised a successful Motherwell High Schools Sport Launch function at Raymond Mhlaba Indoor Sports Centre on May 2.
According to Diba Lam Services managing director Malusi Andries, their objective is to support high schools sport in Motherwell.
Andries stated that they would help to run the school leagues in partnership with the Motherwell Sports Forum (MSF) and local business people.
He said that their aim was to keep the youth taking part in sport. “We look forward to running the Motherwell high schools’ soccer, rugby and netball. I think this initiative is the proper platform to unearth the young talent. We are mindful of the fact that there are challenges at the schools, but the learners should be given an opportunity to play sport,” said Andries.
Andries added that Zonke Spar had made possible a sponsorship of R40 000 for the schools’ league.
“The winners in soccer, rugby and netball will go home with R5 000 each, the runners-up receive R3 000 each while the third-placed teams get R2 000 each. Then the remaining R10 000 is allocated for operational costs,” added Andries.
Zonke Spar owner Kevin Klette stated that since their 14 years in Motherwell they supported many community-based projects. Klette highlighted that initially there were challenges that they were faced with.
“We have a full obligation of ploughing back to the community. At Zonke Spar, we would like to help the broader community depending on our financial resources. All that we wish for is to see the project successful in order to improve the lives of the learners. I am so privileged to be associated with this community project. I want to thank Andries for the role that he plays in our community,” said Klette.
Ace Nogaga from the Department of Education hailed Zonke Spar and Diba Lam Services for keeping schools’ sport alive.
“This is an ideal project that must be sustained,” Nogaga said.
