A delivery woman was hijacked in Walmer yesterday.

The complainant was busy with her delivery at approximately 09:30 and on her way back to her car, she was confronted by two unknown males armed with firearms. They demanded her car keys.  She handed over the car keys and the suspects drove off with the vehicle.

Mere minutes after the hijacking, a resident in Godlonton Street, Walmer Heights, noticed suspicious behaviour outside. Three males were busy offloading goods from the white VW Polo that they hijacked, into another white VW Polo without registration numbers.

According to police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, the resident made a noise, causing the suspects to jump into their vehicle and flee the scene. “The complainant (driver of the VW Polo) was not injured during the incident. A case of vehicle hijacking was opened and will be investigated,” Janse van Rensburg said.
