Several tourists were robbed of their belongings during a tour of the Fort Frederick Monument at the Athol Fugard Terrace yesterday morning, April 24.

The tourists, from a cruise liner that docked in the Bay, were with their tour guide on foot when the incident took place at approximately 11:30.

Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that as the group left the monument, they were approached by a man that pointed a gun at them.

“The tour guide challenged the suspect by attempting to ward him off with his umbrella and while this was taking place, three other suspects robbed the group of about 12 tourists of their personal belongings,” Naidu said.

“No one was injured in the incident. The group has already departed from Nelson Mandela Bay shores. A case of robbery was opened for investigation,” she added.
