Manchester United icon Cristiano Ronaldo and his girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez, have announced the passing of their newborn son on social media.
The couple announced in October last year that they were expecting twins and in December they revealed they were having a boy and a girl.
“It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away,” the couple said in a joint statement.
“It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.”
They went on to thank the doctors and nurses for their “expert care and support”.
