A couple was locked up in a dark cellar while four armed men ransacked their house in Lower Seaview Road on Friday.
The 69-year-old woman and her husband were in the kitchen when she opened the door at approximately 21:30 to let the dogs out. According to police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, when the complainant opened the door, she was confronted by four unknown men, three armed with firearms and one with a knife.
“They got into the house and demanded money and the safe. The couple was tied up and the house ransacked. The couple was taken to the cellar and locked up,” Naidu said.
Foreign currency, a Taurus pistol and jewellery were taken.
They managed to free themselves and broke down the door to get out. The suspects had already left by then. No injuries were sustained.
