A copper thief was recently caught red-handed outside a home in Aspen Heights.

Head of Communications and Marketing at armed response company Fidelity ADT, Charnel Hattingh, said that they received a phone call asking for assistance and immediately sent an armed response officer to investigate.

“The caller described seeing an unidentified person on the premises,” she explained.

When the officer arrived at the address in Jaggers Crescent he spotted an unknown person removing copper pipes. There was also a large volume of water that had already covered the premises.

“Our officer quickly apprehended the suspect and handed him over to police custody. Make sure you have the correct contact numbers for your armed response company or the SAPS. Please don’t engage with unknown people in your yard but rather call the trained professionals to come to your aid,” Hattingh added.
